Description:
This is a collection of piano works by Wolfgang Jacobi, a composer born on Rügen, Germany's largest island in the Baltic Sea. He studied at the Berlin Academy of Music, and after graduation worked as a teacher and in the German broadcasting industry, but was ostracized by the Nazis as a "degenerate musician" because his father was Jewish, and moved to Florence for a time, where he studied Baroque styles. After World War II, however, he returned to the music world and became a professor at the Munich Academy of Music, contributing to the development of postwar music culture. Today, Jacobi is known only for his saxophone and accordion works, but all of his piano works are attractive neoclassical pieces in the vein of J.S. Bach-Reger, incorporating chorales and canons in a modern sound. The intricate exchanges of sound in the four pieces are also worth listening to. Naxos Japan
