Light Gray Medallion Persian Rug · 1200 ReedsAt a Glance A light gray ground Persian medallion rug woven on a 1200 reed Turkish power loom over 3 million knots per square meter on a cotton warp. Light gray is the bridge palette: it lets warm wood furniture stay warm, cool modern fixtures stay cool, and quietly ties the two together. Champagne gold and ivory motifs keep it from reading cold. Washable, colorfast, stain resistant. Density 3,000,000+ knots m (1200 reeds) Pile 66% PP + 34% polyester

A quiet bridge — light gray ground with a structured oval medallion in champagne gold and ivory, framed by patchwork panels that hold the design without crowding it.

Heritage & Inspiration

The classical Persian medallion lives on warm grounds — Kashan reds, Tabriz creams, Isfahan indigos. This piece reinterprets that grammar in a palette built for contemporary American interiors: a soft light-gray field that takes the same arabesque borders and oval medallion structure but reads as transitional rather than ceremonial. The patchwork framing — a structural choice taken from later Caucasian and Heriz traditions — keeps the composition disciplined, so the lightness of the field doesn't dissolve into the room.

How It Feels Underfoot

The pile is a 66/34 polypropylene–polyester blend on a premium cotton warp — soft enough that bare feet sink slightly, dense enough that furniture leaves only a temporary impression. Light-gray grounds carry a quiet practical advantage: shed fibers, small particles, and everyday floor dust disappear into the field rather than spotlighting it the way a cream rug would. The polypropylene face holds the cool-gray tone year after year without yellowing under southern light.

  • 3×13 ft (91×400 cm) — extended hallway, double-island kitchen

  • 8.2×11.5 ft (250×350 cm) — large living or dining room with all furniture on the rug
  • 10×13 ft (300×400 cm) — open-concept great room, oversized dining

Styling rule of thumb: a living room rug should extend 18–24 inches beyond the sofa on each side for a balanced, intentional look. For 9×12-foot rooms, consider sizing up to 10×13 — the canonical Persian standard for great-room seating.

Designer Styling Notes

Light gray is the bridge palette — choose it when the room mixes warm and cool elements and you want the floor to reconcile them rather than pick a side. Pair this rug with walnut or oak furniture and brushed-brass hardware for a transitional read, or with a charcoal-leather sofa, chrome end tables, and white-painted millwork for something more contemporary. The champagne-gold accents in the medallion give you a thread to pull through with brass picture frames or aged-gold lighting, while the structured patchwork lets the rug hold its own under heavy furniture without disappearing.

Best For

Transitional living rooms, master bedrooms, dining rooms, and open-concept great rooms where the floor needs to bridge warm wood and cool fixtures without committing to either. Especially well-suited to homes with mixed natural and overhead lighting.

Reading the Spec Sheet: Reed Count & Density

The structured patchwork framing around this Light Gray anchor's medallion is one of the harder Persian-design compositions to render on a power loom — each panel needs crisp borders to read as architecture rather than ornament. The 1200-reed weave is the density floor where that geometry stops softening at the edges.

شانه (shaneh, "reed count") measures yarn points across the loom's width — 1200 shaneh means 1200 vertical warp threads per meter, the finer end of mill-loom production. تراکم (tarakom, "density") measures how tightly the rows pack along the length. Multiplied together they give total points per square meter; for this 1200-reed Turkish weave that lands in the 1.5–3 million points/m² range depending on the mill's counting convention. Higher reed counts hold finer pattern detail; higher density makes a heavier, more durable rug.

One caveat worth knowing: the same shaneh/tarakom numbers aren't always directly comparable across countries, mills, or fiber types. A 1200-reed Turkish power-loom rug is a different object from a 1200-shaneh hand-knotted Iranian piece, even if the spec line reads the same.
